Robin: Hobson's Choice Affair |
The car sped up as the medic began to examine Illya. First he
gently cut away the sleeve surrounding the bullet wound then cleaned and examined
it.
"Hmm.. It appears you were lucky this time Mr. Kuryakin. The bullet appears
to have gone straight through and has missed the bone and any major blood
vessels." He gave Illya a shot then swiftly sewed the wound up before bandaging.
"Now if you would mind removing your shirt."
Holding Illya forward and up Napoleon helped the medic remove the shirt enough
for the bandages and bruising on Illya's torso to be seen. "My, you have been
through the wars."
The medic checked out the bandaging around Illya's ribs. "Very good. You need
to try and take things easy for a while so that they have a chance to heal.
I have here some painkillers that may assist but remember do not drink alcohol
or drive heavy machinery while taking them."
As the doctor fixed up Illya the car left inner New York and weaving in and
out of various side streets, eventually arrived in Greenwich Village. The
driver quickly parked and climbed out while the medic moved out and into the
driver's seat.
"Right Mate. Can't wait here long or they will be tracking us. Come on Illya,
Mr. Solo. Rolfy will move the car and hopefully decoy anyone following us."
While the driver kept watch Napoleon assisted a slightly groggy Illya from
the back seat and the car took off.
"Ok Illya, do you think you can make it? We have to meet April. Oh by the
way," turning towards Napoleon and holding his hand out. "My name's Mark.
I'm a friend of Illya's."
Taking the other side of Illya and placing Illya's arm around his neck and
his arm around the Russian's waist Mark began to walk with the unsteady walk
of someone slightly drunk. "Do you think you can play along Mr. Solo? Better
if we are not noticed as anything too unusual."
Napoleon grinned, catching on quickly to the ploy. He put Illya's other arm
around his shoulders and his arm around Illya's waist. "No problem. Just a
couple of gentlemen on their way home after an evening's entertainment. By
the way, my name is Napoleon. So who is this April we are going to meet?"
The three of them continued down the street, Napoleon singing old show tunes
and the other two weaving slightly from side to side. They turned the corner
into a parking lot, meeting a young woman dressed in the style of a London
dolly bird, complete with mesh micro mini dress, long dangling beads and earrings
and enormous eyes. She frowned as she approached them.
"I thought you would never get here. Mark how could you, and to let Illya
get drunk as well. Come on. I thought we were going to leave without you."
She took Illya from Mark and assisted him unresisting towards what appeared
to be a double-decker London bus painted in psychedelic colours. On the sides
were advertisements for the latest movie.
"Come on Mr. Solo, if you are coming."
"Better get going mate. April has a real temper when she doesn't get her way.
I've known her to shoot someone dead just for making her late for a hair appointment.
Tell Illya I'll see him later."
