Robin: Hobson's Choice Affair |
"Ingenious" Illya mused, "it would appear you are not quite as incompetent
as you first appeared"
"I'm not sure if you're insulting me or complimenting me "Napoleon retorted
dryly. "Either way, I want to
find out what or better, who, was burning. That smelled like flesh to me.
"
Napoleon walked to the aforementioned storage cupboard where Reynolds and
Wilmington had been in, and found it empty. "Curiouser and curiouser, two
people in the cupboard, no way out and I know they didn't step over us" he
mused. "Maybe..." He reached behind some bottles to a handle and tugged it
sharply causing a door to open into a small corridor As Napoleon stepped into
the corridor he sneezed twice from all the dust in the air.
"That way" Illya indicated from the doorway, not able to get past but able
to see the footprints in the dust.
Napoleon, realizing Illya was the more capable of the two, let him go first.
As they walked on slowly, suitcase all but forgotten, the stench grew worse
and worse. Turning a corner,
Illya swore softly. Napoleon looked over his shoulder and said similar things
in American, at the sight of a
girl, hardly out of her teens, tied to a metal chair. Wires had been attached
to her body in several places,
and she had burns around most of them, her hands virtually one huge blister,
and her wrists cracked and
peeled. By the look of her she had been conscious and alive at the time, but
she certainly wasn't now.
"Who is she" Napoleon asked Illya.
"I do not know, we will have to find out."
"and where are our friends Reynolds and Wilmington? The footprints lead this
way clearly"
"You are not suggesting another secret door are you? This is not a comic book
Napoleon" Illya scoffed,
looking at several of the diabolical looking instruments around the room.
"Where better to hide one? Nobody would suspect it. They must have gone somewhere,
as long as we don't
find them; we risk a repeat of what happened earlier.
" Napoleon reasoned.
