McKeigh regarded the American and, silently, praised him for his dedication to his partner. Be that as it may, he had to make certain the younger man understood exactly what he was preparing to do. "Mr. Solo?', he ventured.

"You want me to challenge this Cthulu for Illya, don't you?", Solo asked.

McKeigh was momentarily taken aback by the directness of the question. He cleared him throat, slightly. "Yes, Mr. Solo, that is precisely what you must do; however, that is only part of it....."

"Illya's a sexual plaything for Cthulu and I must, physically, stake my claim, sort to speak", Napoleon finished.

McKeigh nodded. "Very perceptive. Yes."

Napoleon was silent for several moments, all his thoughts bent only on how to save his partner..

"What help can I expect?", he asked having made his decision.

"My help, Mr. Solo", came a familiar voice.

Both Napoleon and the Professor started and turned in the direction from whence the voice had come. Neither was surprised to find the old man standing in the middle of the cluttered room. The light surrounding the newcomer nearly blinded them. "H. P. Lovecraft, I presume?", McKeigh paraphrased.

The figure bowed, slightly. "My compliments on your insight, Professor; and welcome to my part of the world, Mr. Solo", Lovecraft replied.

"Thank you", both men replied as one, then laughed, softly, as they realized what they had done.

Lovecraft floated closer until he stood in front of the massive fireplace. The nearly blinding light now a soft glow. "Mr. Solo, am I correct in what I feel? Your deep, unconditional love for Mr. Kuryakin?"

"You are correct."

"And your belief that what you've experienced so far is reality?"

"Yes."

"Excellent! Your lack of hesitation , not to mention the instinct and skills of your profession, will serve you well."

Napoleon reflected on these compliments for all of two seconds. "How exactly are you going to help me. Mr. Lovecraft?"

Lovecraft turned and smiled at Napoleon. "Why, I am going to inhabit your body, Mr. Solo", he replied, matter-of-factly. "You and I will become one. Outwardly they will see Napoleon Solo, man of the world, and concerned friend. Inwardly, however, you will have more mystical power than even Merlin could have imagined." Slowly Lovecraft stretched out his arms toward the UNCLE agent. "Rise!", he commanded.

As if it had a will of its own, Napoleon's body obeyed.

McKeigh remained alert for any sign of interference from the opposition as human flesh and mystical forces merged.

Five minutes later Napoleon Solo smiled at McKeigh. "Thank you, Professor. This time I will not fail. Cthulu will be banished forever!"
