Melissa paced nervously; since dawn had risen crisp and clear over Leningrad she had known something was amiss. She looked deeply into the dark tea, peering into the swirling depths and understood trepidation.

Illya.

The name half forgotten on her lips as she looked out over her city again, a snow white mantle threatened to soften the harsh lines and the chill wind was sentient as she wrapped her shawl around her body. Pretty features set into hard lines as she watched her babies awaken from a long sleep and stroked their faces tenderly. Her mind made up, she gathered them to her and set out to find her Babushka. Perhaps she would know what to make of the sense of disquiet and precisely what it had to do with Illya.

"It took you long enough." The elderly woman held the door open and took the children from her arms.

"I am not as gifted as you Baba, all I know is somehow Illya is in danger."

"Da, you are right child, come- sit and have tea." Somehow, Melissa thought, having tea would not solve the worries of the world that seemed hell bent on visiting her.

"When you were children, we knew that Illya would be sought out by dark forces, and we hoped to make certain he would not be vulnerable by bonding you together." Baba stopped and pulled her wrap around her brightly coloured clothes and let the silver earrings tinkle as she tossed her head and long gray hair back over her shoulder. "Since then you both grew, and many believed that the day of reckoning would not come."

"Da, I know this Baba- it is why you allowed me to marry Leonid rather than Illya."

"And for the children I am most heartily grateful, but Melissa this is all part of a larger whole. The integrity of the union you have with my Illyusha is compromised by those same forces we feared so many years ago."

"Is this why I cannot feel him?"

"I'm afraid so. Our old ally, Alexander, has been put in a tenuous position as well. I believe moya dorogaya, it is time I visited our cousins in the America's."

"And do what?" Melissa frowned.

"I will give what aid I can to Alexander and give Illya's partner a chance to fulfill his obligations and take our child from their hands."

"Illya has a partner? What's her name Baba?"

"His partner is a male little one."

"He must bond with a man?" Melissa smiled slowly. "It makes sense."

"Ah but this is no ordinary man. Napoleon Solo has a distinct quality to love, and he does love our Illyushka. And we have as they say in the West a secret weapon." Her black eyes twinkled.

"And that would be?"

"Napoleon is currently playing host to our dear departed brother."

"Lovecraft is in his body?"

"Da, but I must hurry, time is not with us on this one."

"What can I do?"

"Pray moya dushenka, and keep the faith."
