The Darkest Side of Midnight
(An A/U MFU round robin) part 14
With Special guest author: Deborah

While Napoleon bounded up the stairs to Mark's  appartment, he mused about his senior obviously somehow having mastered telepathy too. That meant
either he was a very rare individual, or he had somehow aquired the ability, or he too was bonded to a vampire. As Illya had said they made history, the last
seemed  doubtfull, which left two very ...interesting.. options. He had been seen in daylight, so he couldn't be a vampire himself..maybe another race? a shapechanger? or something else entirely? Either way it didn't matter, one more floor and Mark needed rescueing.....

Feeling naked and denuded without his gun, Solo pushed open the door that was already ajar. Inside the appartment looked like a hurricane had hit it, and in
the center was a vampire. The long curtains the agent had aquired for this appartment billowed around them in the gusty night air. Apparently Slate had not been
alone, for tied to the chair was April, dressed in a very interesting outfit, and above behind her was another vampire. But what caught Solo's attention was
the canines Mark's vampire had poised just over the jugular, and the arm he had twisted behind Slate's back, making it hard for the trained agent to even
breathe.

Trusting Illya's judgment, Solo took a deep breath and stepped out, hands outspread complacently to prove he was unarmed

"Let him go" Solo commanded quietly. The voice from the communicator, appeared to be the vampire guarding April.

"Step this way. When you are secured we will let the mortals go free"

"How do I know you won't just turn them into a snack?" Napoleon asked, stalling.

"You'll just have to trust us" the Vampire grinned.

As Napoleon stepped forward, Mark threw his full weight back against the vampire holding him, causing the vampire to stumble, Mark landing on top of him.
The Vampire plunged into Mark's neck, an anguished sound of pain and despair leaving Mark's mouth involuntarily. April, seeing the distraction, toppled
her chair backwards onto the other vampire, and as Napoleon watched horrified, too far to intervene yet, the Vampire reached for his weapon.....
