He looked over at the vampire to see what response he would make and saw Illya standing perfectly still with his eyes glazed over, chanting under his breath. A whirlwind appeared in answer to his summons.
"You have need of us, O Childe of the Night?" the elemental asked.
"What one of you knows another may whisper in an ear half a world away,"
Illya said. "I need a message delivered with the speed only your
kind could
muster." He spoke rapidly in a tongue Napoleon was unable to
follow, and the whirlwind seemed to bow before dissipating, sending breezes
in all directions.
"We should go, partner," the Knight suggested.
"We are still needed here," the vampire countered, "and any aid we might be would be hours too late. My warning goes with the greatest possible speed, and in any case Valentine has already departed with our sole means of leaving the island."
Napoleon looked toward the quay and saw it was, in fact, empty.
"If you want a boat or plane now," Illya grinned as his eyes flashed red and his canines extended, "you'll have to fight through the Lilim to get it."
Napoleon drew his blades and led the way towards the main compound.
The Knights were barely holding their own as the Lilim flocked to invade the UNCLE HQ, heedless of the "protections" which were no such thing.
"How are they able to pass?" one young knight yelled in a near panic. "We just reconscecrated the entire structure!"
"Obviously not," Sir Alexander countered in a calm voice, raised only slightly to be heard over the fighting. "They must have been anticipating we would need to do so after discovering their infiltration and replaced the clergy with their own people, who would most certainly leave the doors wide open to their brothers." He aimed and fired as he spoke, taking out another pair of attackers with his crossbow and noting how few bolts he had left as he reloaded, and how few defenders.
It took several hours to clear the Survival School and the island of Lilim, but shortly after they started Illya and Napoleon were joined by small groups of surviving monks and knights. They reached the sanctum sanctorum before it could be permanently defiled, and managed to rescue the Holy Relics before they could be destroyed, thus preventing the Lilim from completely regaining their former power. The dark prince and a small retinue of followers were able to escape, however, and the knights knew they would have to be dealt with eventually.
But not today -- there were more urgent matters requiring immediate
attention. The island needed to be secured and reconscecrated, communications
needed to be restored with the rest of UNCLE. By the time the island
would have become uncomfortable for Illya, however, the bonded pair was
already returning to New York.
