The Darkest Side of Midnight
(An A/U MFU round robin) part 36

Napoleon sank slowly to his knees, seeing stars, his hand rubbing his pounding temple. How could he have done it? How could he have hurt Illya? His beloved? His soulmate? How could he? He was no better than those monsters for doing so. He had deliberatly gone out and used Illya..and hurt him. Napoleon bit the inside of his cheek so hard it bled, trying to distract him withself with the pain.

April and Mark tried to help the Knight to his knees when they stopped by an hour later, but Napoleon still sat on his knees silently, staring blankly ahead. Both April and Mark sniffed the air several times and then met each others look over Napoleon's head. "Magic?" Mark asked, a confirmation more than a question. "Magic" April confirmed. Both knew the toll the responsibilyt and tasks that came with wielding magic responsibly could bring.

Slowly Napoleon registered their presence. "I hurt him. I'm no better than they" he whispered, sounding hoarse and shattered.

"Who?" April asked, confused

"Illya. I...My Nana taught me some things. I hurt him " Napoleon whispered, ashamed of his actions.

"Napoleon, magic may be the best and only way to fight the Lilim" Mark answered, helping a stiff Napoleon up.

"No, I can't use this. I hurt Illya" Napoleon repeated, a blank look in his eyes and hurt betrayed in his voice.

April guided Napoleon outside saying "If your worried about that..I know somebody who can teach you. But I warn you, he is rather..odd. They can let you know if something happens here. What do you think Napoleon?"

Napoleon merely shrugged.

The trio made their way to April's car, and Mark took the place in the back, allowing the senior Knight to sit next to his mate and fellow Garou. They drove through New York, seemingly in ever decreasing circles untill April stopped in front of
one store. The alley it was in was dimly lighted but even though it was evening, the store was open. It has some bunches of plants in the window, and a suncatcher with a CND symbol hanging in the door. Napoleon perked up enough to take an interest when he got inside. He saw shelves full of books, yars, and smelled incence. Deep down, below the smell of that he thought he detected a hint of something illigal, and raised an eyebrow at April. April shrugged and walked to the back. Nobody was behind the counter so she rang the little bell.

Several moments later a young woman came out, with glorious long red hair. She was wearing a small dress covered with flowers, as well as a scarf she wore around her neck. All in all she made a quite attractive woman, Napoleon thought with some distant part of his brain. That was, he thought she bellowed 'April!" and hugged April.

April hugged the person back and then turned to Napoleon. "Titania, let me introduce you to Napoleon, First Knight, and my mate, Mark. Napoleon, Mark, this is Timothy, though usually she goes by the name Titania. She runs this store"

Napoleon took another look and realised 'Titania' was indeed a disguised man..but a lovely looking one. "Titania? From shakespeare" he asked, pleasantly?

"Yeah..Titania, Queen of all the Faeries" Titania replied.

"Napoleon is having some trouble using his magic, and having some worries about using it" April explained.

Titania looked Napoleon over, and then asked "What kind of magic do you practise?"

"Just that my Nana taught me " Napoleon shrugged.

"Ok, I work mostly with the Wee folk, but we can with that" Titania shrugged, waving the trio down back.

"Wee folk?" Napoleon asked, not remembering a reference to any wee folk from what his grandmother had taught him.

"Yeah,  you know. Faeries, pixies, nixies, watersprites, brownies, gnomes, leprechauns, that kind of thing?" Mark explained.

Napoleon couldn't really believe he was having this discussion.

Meanwhile...

"Men, your orders, should you accep them, are to find and capture Napoleon Solo, First Knight, and any companions. Any Questions? " the half demon bellowed in imitation of too much television. He received a chorus of "no"'s "Anybody not prepared or unable to do this?" he bellowed again" One scrawny half demon stepped forward. The first half demon (ugly too!) nodded. "Alright, everybody but you move. " Then he took one of his luitenants aside and commented

"When we are gone, kill that traitor. Slowly. And painfully" and he grinned at the grining luitenant.
